The O-factor: using the H-factor concept to predict the outcome of organosolv pretreatment

Summary: The H-factor, commonly used for analyzing kraft pulping, is now applied to organosolv pretreatment. An extended concept, the O-factor, is introduced to analyze individual biomass polymers. The O-factor proves to be a useful concept for analyzing organosolv pretreatment when the temperature is not constant.

Summary: Biogas and biohydrogen are compatible gaseous biofuels that can be blended with natural gas to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Sustainable woody biomass is emerging as a potential feedstock for biofuel production, offering wide availability, non-arable land use, no need for synthetic fertilizers, and acting as a carbon sink. However, the recalcitrant nature of wood to enzymatic hydrolysis limits its widespread use as a gaseous biofuel feedstock.
