Evaluation of bottom ash slagging risk during combustion of herbaceous and woody biomass fuels in a small-scale boiler by principal component analysis

Thomas Zeng et al.

Summary: In the short and mid term, drastic measures are needed to reduce anthropogenic emissions, including extensive decarbonization of the residential and industrial heating sector. In order to predict bottom ash slagging during combustion, various fuel indices have been proposed and enhanced based on empirical correlations with relevant parameters. Analysis of woody and non-woody fuels, as well as experimental data from combustion tests, were utilized to evaluate the applicability of existing fuel indices and develop a new fuel index for assessing bottom ash slagging risk during real-scale combustion.

Modification of ash flow properties of coal rich in calcium and iron by coal gangue addition

Huaizhu Li et al.

Summary: The flow property of coal ash and slag is crucial for slag tapping in gasifiers. Adding coal gangue with different SiO2/Al2O3 ratios was investigated to modify the flow properties of coal rich in calcium and iron. The results showed that the addition of coal gangue can effectively improve the ash flow properties by altering the chemical composition of the ash and modifying the slag viscosity.

Effect of basic washing parameters on the chemical composition of empty fruit bunches during washing pretreatment: A detailed experimental, pilot, and kinetic study

Abhishek Singhal et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the effect of washing parameters on the chemical composition of oil palm empty fruit bunches (EFB) and recommended optimal conditions for large-scale washing pre-treatment. The results showed significant removal rates of elements such as Cl, S, K, ash, and N after washing EFB, with a second-order leaching kinetics observed. Pilot tests confirmed the effectiveness of the pre-treatment, supporting the recommended parameters of 10 minutes washing at 50 degrees C with a 1:15 S:L ratio for large-scale applications.

Effect of different washing parameters on the fuel properties and elemental composition of wheat straw in water-washing pre-treatment. Part 2: Effect of washing temperature and solid-to-liquid ratio

Abhishek Singhal et al.

Summary: Increasing the washing temperature and solid-to-liquid ratio can improve the removal efficiency of ash, chlorine, sulfur, and other elements. A solid-to-liquid ratio of 1:15 is found to be more practical, and washing 3 cm sized wheat straw for 10 minutes at 40°C with a 1:15 ratio is recommended for industrial applications due to its low fouling propensity and energy loss.
