Sustainable valorization of water primrose with cow dung for enhanced biogas production

Huyen Thu Thi Nong et al.

Summary: The effects of alkaline pretreatment of water primrose on its biogas production efficiency and anaerobic co-digestion of cow dung were investigated. The study found that the best performance was achieved at a mixing ratio of 2:1 (water primrose to cow dung, w/w) and a pretreatment time of 2 weeks, with the highest biogas production, methane concentration, and removal efficiency of solids and chemical oxygen demand.

Improvement of fermentable sugar for enhanced bioethanol production from Amorphophallus spp. tuber obtained from northern Thailand

Prakash Bhuyar et al.

Summary: This study compares the production of bioethanol from tubers sourced from northern Thailand using biological and chemical approaches, showing that enzymatic hydrolysis significantly increases fermentable sugar content from Amorphophallus spp. tubers. The use of enzymes in hydrolysis speeds up the process and biological methods are more cost-effective and eco-friendly. Konjac, due to its irritating nature, receives less attention in the biofuel industry, but improved fermentable sugars may help address the global issue of declining fossil fuel consumption.
