Physiological Traits of Thirty-Five Tomato Accessions in Response to Low Temperature

Sherzod Nigmatullayevich Rajametov et al.

Summary: Tomatoes are often exposed to various environmental stresses, including cold stress, which can have negative effects on growth and development, leading to decreased yield and fruit quality. This study analyzed the physiological traits of 35 tomato accessions with different fruit types under control and low temperatures, showing significant reductions in plant height, leaf size, and fruit-related parameters under low temperature conditions. Multivariate analysis revealed positive correlations between different traits and classified the tomato accessions into four major groups based on their responses to low temperature stress. These results can be useful for breeding programs targeting cold-tolerant tomato cultivars.

The Role of Polyphenols in Abiotic Stress Response: The Influence of Molecular Structure

Dunja Samec et al.

Summary: Abiotic stressors such as extreme temperatures, drought, flood, light, salt, and heavy metals can affect biological diversity and crop production. Plants have mechanisms to cope with these stressors, and polyphenols, a group of plant-specialized metabolites, play a role in stress protection. Different polyphenol structures have varying biological activities and roles in abiotic stress responses.

Integrated Analysis of Metabolome and Transcriptome Reveals Insights for Cold Tolerance in Rapeseed (Brassica napus L.)

Ali Raza et al.

Summary: Rapeseed is an important oilseed crop and enhancing cold stress tolerance is crucial for agricultural investigation and crop improvement. This study identified stress-responsive genes, metabolites, and pathways in cold-tolerant and cold-sensitive rapeseed varieties. Functional analysis revealed the significance of starch and sucrose metabolism and phenylalanine metabolism in cold stress adaption. Six candidate genes were selected for controlling adaption to low temperature and showed significant differences in freezing tolerance.

Effect of Low Temperature on Germination, Growth, and Seed Yield of Four Soybean (Glycine max L.) Cultivars

Anna Szczerba et al.

Summary: The study found that the plants of 'Abelina', 'Malaga', and 'Merlin' cultivars germinating at low temperature produced the highest number of seeds, with seed number negatively correlated with seed dry weight. In 'Abelina' and 'Malaga', seed number also positively correlated with the index performance of photosystem II.

Antioxidant Enzymatic Activities and Growth Response of Quinoa (Chenopodium quinoa Willd) to Exogenous Selenium Application

Ahlam Khalofah et al.

Summary: This study investigated the morphological, physiological, and biochemical responses of quinoa plants to varying concentrations of selenium, finding that low selenium concentrations enhanced plant growth and antioxidant enzyme activity, while high concentrations inhibited growth and increased oxidative stress. These findings highlight the importance of considering selenium levels for successful cultivation of quinoa plants in selenium-rich environments.

Effect of Cold Stress on Growth, Physiological Characteristics, and Calvin-Cycle-Related Gene Expression of Grafted Watermelon Seedlings of Different Gourd Rootstocks

Kaixing Lu et al.

Summary: Grafting technology has been used to enhance cold stress tolerance in watermelon, with watermelons grafted onto 2505 and 0526 rootstocks showing higher resilience. The improved cold tolerance was associated with higher chlorophyll and proline content, and lower MDA content in grafted watermelons.
