Influence of the Shortening of the Winter Fertilization Prohibition Period in Hungary Assessed by Spatial Crop Simulation Analysis

Sandor Koos et al.

Summary: The Nitrates Directive aims to protect water quality from agricultural sources and promote good farming practices, with a controversial winter fertilization prohibition period extended to begin on November 30 instead of October 31 in Hungary showing no significant impact on nitrate leaching based on a crop model-based spatial analysis. Further model runs with different weather scenarios are needed to determine the actual effects of modifying the prohibition period.

Effect of Sewage Sludge Compost Usage on Corn and Faba Bean Growth, Carbon and Nitrogen Forms in Plants and Soil

Hassan E. Abd Elsalam et al.

Summary: The study found that the addition of sludge in corn and faba bean cultivation increased plant yields, had a significant impact on organic carbon levels and nitrogen forms in the soil, and total nitrogen amounts varied during the growth periods of maize and beans.

Sewage Sludge Derived Materials for CO2 Adsorption

Marius Gheorghe Miricioiu et al.

Summary: The study investigated the use of sewage-sludge-derived materials for CO2 adsorption, with promising results in terms of adsorption capacity. The materials were structurally and texturally characterized, and the efficiency of CO2 adsorption was evaluated using a homemade system coupled with a gas chromatograph. The study concluded that the sewage sludge derived material could be a promising solution for CO2 reduction and waste disposal.
