Automated aerosol puffers effectively deliver 1-OCTEN-3-OL, an oviposition antagonist useful against spotted-wing drosophila

Dara G. Stockton et al.

Summary: The study found that using aerosol puffers to release octenol can effectively reduce D. suzukii oviposition in crops. In the 2017 experiment, aerosol puffers were more effective than vial dispensers. Intermittent spraying at dawn and dusk can deter oviposition without the need for continuous application throughout the day.

Biology of Mushroom Phorid Flies, Megaselia halterata (Diptera: Phoridae): Effects of Temperature, Humidity, Crowding, and Compost Stage

Ikkei Shikano et al.

Summary: The study found that the longevity of adult M. halterata increased under cooler temperatures and more humid conditions, flies emerged earlier from 14-d spawned compost, and the effect of parental fly density on offspring production plateaued beyond a certain threshold.

The Association Between Mushroom Sciarid Flies, Cultural Techniques, and Green Mold Disease Incidence on Commercial Mushroom Farms

Phillip S. Coles et al.

Summary: This study found an association between sciarid fly populations and green mold disease incidence, with preventative measures like sanitation and new technologies shown to reduce green mold spread. Additionally, farm characteristics such as proximity to neighboring farms and organic growing practices were associated with fly incidence.

Residual behavior of the potential grain fumigant 1-octen-3-ol in wheat during fumigation and ventilation processes

Kaidi Cui et al.

Summary: The study developed a method for detecting residues of 1-octen-3-ol in wheat, showing good linearity and negligible matrix effects. The results showed positive correlations between fumigation concentration and accumulation rate, and temperature significantly affected the dissipation dynamics of 1-octen-3-ol in wheat. Preservers can regulate ventilation temperature to achieve different goals in the storage of grains.

Efficacy of BotaniGard® against the mushroom phorid fly Megaselia halterata

Stefanos S. Andreadis et al.

Summary: Megaselia halterata is a major pest of cultivated white button mushrooms in the United States, and recent studies show that the fungal biopesticide BotaniGard (R) ES is effective in controlling adults of M. halterata but not larvae. Further research is needed to improve the efficacy of the formulated product against both immature and adult stages of the pest.

Applied pesticide toxicity shifts toward plants and invertebrates, even in GM crops

Ralf Schulz et al.

Summary: Systematic interpretation of changes in the use of 381 pesticides over 25 years reveals that the toxicity of applied insecticides to aquatic invertebrates and pollinators has considerably increased, driven by highly toxic pyrethroids and neonicotinoids. Additionally, since around 2010, there has been an increasing applied toxicity to aquatic invertebrates and pollinators in genetically modified corn, as well as to terrestrial plants in herbicide-tolerant soybeans. These findings challenge the assumption of decreasing environmental impacts of pesticide use.

EFFECTS OF NITROGEN SUPPLEMENTATION WITH WHEAT STRAW ON PRODUCTIVITY OF PLEUROTUS DJAMOR (RUMPH. EX FR.) BOEDIJN

Anupam Barh et al.

Summary: This study found that in the cultivation of Pleurotus mushrooms, 0.5% urea supplementation can achieve the highest biological efficiency. While higher nitrogen supplementation may not directly increase yield, it affects the spawn run period, cropping duration, and color intensity of the basidiocarp.
