The effect of a consortium of Penicillium sp. and Bacillus spp. in suppressing banana fungal diseases caused by Fusarium sp. and Alternaria sp.

T. T. Win et al.

Summary: The study effectively suppressed wilt-causing fungal pathogens of banana using indigenous soil micro-organisms. Various bacterial and fungal strains were found to be antagonistic against the pathogens, providing substantial potential for disease control. Utilizing indigenous microflora to improve disease suppression of banana plants against soil-borne pathogens is a preferable approach.

Biocontrol ability of phenazine-producing strains for the management of fungal plant pathogens: A review

Su-Yan Wang et al.

Summary: The potential of phenazine-producing strains for controlling fungal and oomycete plant pathogens has been reviewed, with isolated natural phenazines showing high antifungal activity. The biosynthesis of phenazines strongly influences the antifungal activity of strains, with PCA-producing Pseudomonas chlororaphis and P. fluorescens showing the highest biocontrol ability.
