Prevalence of Worldwide Neonatal Calf Diarrhoea Caused by Bovine Rotavirus in Combination with Bovine Coronavirus, Escherichia coli K99 and Cryptosporidium spp.: A Meta-Analysis

Michael Brunauer et al.

Summary: Three weighted-stratified random-effects meta-analyses were conducted to estimate the worldwide prevalence of neonatal calf diarrhoea caused by mixed infections of BRV, BCoV, ETEC, and Crypto. The highest prevalence was found for BRV-Crypto, followed by BRV-BCoV and BRV-ETEC. Factors such as diarrhoea in calves, dairy herds, and age classes of sampled animals influenced the prevalence.

The Antibiotic Treatment of Calf Diarrhea in Four European Countries: A Survey

Cassandra Eibl et al.

Summary: The study found that 52.5% of participants use antibiotics for treating neonatal calf diarrhea, with 27% always using them, and 45% using highest priority critically important antibiotics. The most significant influencing factor was the country of the participants, possibly due to regulatory differences between countries. The research also highlights the urgent need for scientific evidence to define best practices for treating neonatal calf diarrhea.
