Remodeler Catalyzed Nucleosome Repositioning: Influence of Structure and Stability

Aaron Morgan et al.

Summary: The packaging of the eukaryotic genome into chromatin regulates the storage of genetic information, and mechanisms such as chromatin remodeling enzymes have evolved to regulate and modify chromatin structure by using the energy from ATP to reposition and rearrange nucleosomes. This review focuses on the nucleosome mobilization activity of these essential molecular machines.

Effect of neonatal exposure to endocrine-active compounds on epigenetic regulation of gene expression in corpus luteum of gilts

Patrycja Witek et al.

Summary: Recent studies have shown that neonatal exposure to environmental endocrine-active compounds (EACs) can lead to morphological and functional changes in the porcine corpus luteum (CL). By analyzing the impact of EACs on global DNA methylation and miRNA biogenesis components in the CL, researchers aim to unravel the regulatory mechanisms underlying the long-term effects. The changes in DNA methylation and altered miRNA biogenesis components appear to play a role in mediating the long-term effects of EACs on CL function in pigs.

Sperm Methylome Profiling Can Discern Fertility Levels in the Porcine Biomedical Model

Fabio Pertille et al.

Summary: A combined GBS and MeDIP protocol was used to identify genetic and epigenetic differences in the genome of spermatozoa from porcine animal models. The study found that breeding boars with different fertility levels exhibited significant differences in their genetic and epigenetic profiles, with potential applications in sire selection and diagnosis of reproductive system diseases in males. This suggests that methylome analyses can be used to discern fertility levels in breeding males.

Importance of the pig as a human biomedical model

Joan K. Lunney et al.

Summary: Pigs have significant potential as biomedical models for studying human developmental processes, congenital diseases, and pathogen response mechanisms, as well as serving as xenotransplant organ donors and tools for vaccine and drug design. The similarities between pigs and humans in anatomy, physiology, immunology, and genetics enhance their potential as human models. Therefore, utilizing animal models that closely resemble humans, such as pigs, is crucial for relevant and reproducible research.

Impacts of Epigenetic Processes on the Health and Productivity of Livestock

Mengqi Wang et al.

Summary: The dynamic changes in the epigenome resulting from genetic and environmental factors are crucial for individual growth and development. Despite the increasing pressure to enhance livestock production, there is limited epigenetic data available to support advancements in breeding and health management. Research efforts focusing on how epigenetic mechanisms influence livestock health and productivity are essential for improved management and productivity.
