Rumination time as an early predictor of metritis and subclinical ketosis in dairy cows at the beginning of lactation: Systematic review-meta-analysis

Roberta Cocco et al.

Summary: The study evaluated whether rumination time can be used for early detection of diseases in dairy cows, and found that rumination time is an effective predictor for detecting metritis, but not for subclinical ketosis.

A Systematic Review on Commercially Available and Validated Sensor Technologies for Welfare Assessment of Dairy Cattle

Anna H. Stygar et al.

Summary: This study provided a systematic overview of externally validated and commercially available precision livestock farming (PLF) technologies for sensor-based welfare assessment in dairy cattle. Only a small percentage of sensors on the market have been externally validated. The validated technologies mainly focus on assessing animal activity, feeding and drinking behavior, physical condition, and health, with limited potential for assessing appropriate behavior of dairy cows.
