Disentangling the effects of climatic variability and climate extremes on the belowground biomass of C3- and C4-dominated grasslands across five ecoregions

Md Lokman Hossain et al.

Summary: This study examined the variation in grassland belowground biomass and its response to climatic variables in different ecoregions. Results showed significant effects of temperature and precipitation on the biomass of C-3 and C-4 plants across various regions. Extreme events like dry and wet conditions also played a role in influencing the biomass levels.

Vegetation Change and Its Response to Climate Change in Yunnan Province, China

Huaizhang Sun et al.

Summary: The impact of global climate change on vegetation has become increasingly prominent, and understanding the relationship between vegetation and climate is crucial for environmental resource management. This study found that vegetation index varies in different seasons, showing the highest growth rates in spring and autumn. Spatially, vegetation distribution exhibits strong heterogeneity influenced by terrain factors. The concurrent and lagged effects of vegetation on climate change were also identified, with different seasons showing distinct responses to temperature and precipitation.

Biomass partitioning of C3- and C4-dominated grasslands in response to climatic variability and climate extremes

Md Lokman Hossain et al.

Summary: Climate warming impacts grassland ecosystems by affecting above-ground biomass (AGB), below-ground biomass (BGB), and biomass partitioning (BGB:AGB ratio). This study analyzed grassland productivity data from Tennessee, USA, and found that growing-season temperatures are key determinants in explaining biomass partitioning of C-3 and C-4 dominated grasslands. The study highlights the importance of understanding the response of grasslands to increasing climate extremes for ecosystem functioning and stability.
