Further enhancement of the particle shifting technique: Towards better volume conservation and particle distribution in SPH simulations of violent free-surface flows

Hong-Guan Lyu et al.

Summary: This paper introduces an enhanced version of Weakly-Compressible SPH simulation to address the non-conservation of total fluid volume issue caused by accumulating errors on potential energy. By introducing Corrective Cohesion Force (CCF) and improving particle distribution near the free-surface, the new Particle Shifting Technique (PST) shows satisfactory performance in maintaining conservation of volume and achieving uniform particle distribution.

Harmonic-induced wave breaking due to abrupt depth transitions: An experimental and numerical study

S. Draycott et al.

Summary: Abrupt depth transitions induce the release of bound waves into free waves, resulting in spatially inhomogeneous wave fields. Through the use of a Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) model, it has been found that the model can accurately reproduce higher-harmonic wave components, particularly near the Abrupt depth transition.

Numerical modeling of the interaction between submerged floating tunnel and surface waves

Xuebin Chen et al.

Summary: This study presents a numerical model for analyzing the nonlinear interaction between a moored Submerged Floating Tunnel (SFT) and surface waves. Through laboratory experiments, the model is validated on its ability to simulate the dynamics of the moored floating body under wave action, providing guidance for engineering design. The numerical simulations also investigate the characteristics of wave-tunnel interaction for different hydrodynamic parameters, offering insights on mooring forces and motion responses of the SFT in various wave conditions.

Highly directionally spread, overturning breaking waves modelled with Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics: A case study involving the Draupner wave

T. Kanehira et al.

Summary: The study shows that the Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) method can effectively model highly directionally spread overturning breaking waves and align well with experimental observations. However, some smaller-scale features may not be accurately reproduced due to limited resolution. Existing breaking criteria are difficult to apply in highly directionally spread conditions.
