Finite element modeling of face/core interface fracture in homogenized honeycomb core sandwich SCB specimens

Mohammad Tauhiduzzaman et al.

Summary: The fracture mechanics analysis of a face/core interface crack in a honeycomb core sandwich under mode I-dominated loading conditions is conducted to examine the homogenized in-plane extensional properties. The study shows that plane stress assumption may lead to crack closure effects and highly distorted core elements for core with low in-plane modulus, while plane strain stabilizes the core deformation. Experimental results support the plane strain constrained modulus approach for face/core debond analysis.

Heat transfer enhancement and exergy efficiency improvement of a micro combustor with internal spiral fins for thermophotovoltaic systems

Ziqiang He et al.

Summary: By introducing internal spiral fins, the novel micro combustor can effectively improve the energy efficiency and output of micro thermophotovoltaic system, although with increased pressure loss. Experiment results demonstrate that the micro combustor with 8 spiral fins achieves the highest efficiency and energy output at different inlet velocities.

Comprehensive Insight into Foams Made of Thermomechanical Pulp Fibers and Cellulose Nanofibrils via Microwave Radiation

Islam Hafez et al.

Summary: A novel approach was investigated to produce all-renewable foams from thermomechanical pulp fibers and cellulose nanofibrils using microwave radiation, without the need for foaming agents or chemical reinforcing agents. The foams showed promising compressive moduli, thickness recovery after compression, low thermal conductivity, and potential for sound absorption applications. This new chemical-free process has the potential for easier scalability compared to other foaming technologies.
