Impact of surgeon learning curve in minimally invasive radical hysterectomy on early stage cervical cancer patient survival

L. Pedone Anchora et al.

Summary: Surgeon experience significantly influences the oncological outcomes of early-stage cervical cancer patients undergoing MI-RH. The study demonstrates a clear association between increased surgeon experience and a reduced risk of disease recurrence, ultimately leading to higher disease-free survival rates for patients.

Impact of the Learning Curve on the Survival of Abdominal or Minimally Invasive Radical Hysterectomy for Early-Stage Cervical Cancer

Lan Ying Li et al.

Summary: This study aimed to define the learning curve for open and minimally invasive surgery for cervical cancer patients and analyze the correlation with tumor size. The results showed that minimally invasive group had lower survival rates than open group for larger tumors, but preoperative conization could improve disease-free survival in some patients.

A retrospective assessment of the safety and efficacy of laparoscopic radical hysterectomy in Japan during the early years following its introduction: a Japanese Gynecologic Oncology Group study (JGOG1081S)

Eiji Kobayashi et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the safety and efficacy of laparoscopic radical hysterectomy (LRH) for cervical cancer introduced in Japan, showing a 87.4% recurrence-free survival rate and 97.8% overall survival rate. It was found that tumor size and route of lymph node removal were independent prognostic factors for recurrence.

Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.

Vaginal-assisted gasless laparoendoscopic single-site radical hysterectomy for early cervical cancer: a retrospective pilot study

Xiaojuan Wang et al.

Summary: The study retrospectively evaluated 48 patients who underwent vaginal-assisted gasless laparoendoscopic single-site radical hysterectomy for early cervical cancer, showing no intraoperative complications and no cases of recurrence during follow-up, but some patients experienced lower limb lymphoedema. Further prospective studies with more patients and longer follow-up periods are needed to fully assess the safety and oncological outcomes of this surgical technique.

Clinical Validation of the Comprehensive Complication Index in Colon Cancer Surgery

Nicolo Tamini et al.

Summary: The study showed that the Comprehensive Complication Index (CCI) is more effective than the Clavien-Dindo classification in predicting hospital stay for colon cancer patients, especially those with multiple postoperative complications. These findings support the routine use of CCI in grading postoperative complications in colonic surgery.

Radical hysterectomy in early cervical cancer in Europe: characteristics, outcomes and evaluation of ESGO quality indicators

Felix Boria et al.

Summary: Comprehensive information on surgical treatment of cervical cancer in Europe is limited. This study evaluated baseline characteristics and outcomes of ESGO quality indicators after radical hysterectomy in the SUCCOR database. Results showed a higher rate of adjuvant therapy after radical hysterectomy in this European cohort compared to similar patients in the literature, with most centers already following European recommendations 5 years prior to ESGO quality indicator implementations.
