Superoxide: A major role in the mechanism of action of essential antimalarial drugs

Chinedu O. Egwu et al.

Summary: The research found that artemisinins, atovaquone, and chloroquine can generate significant levels of superoxide radicals in Plasmodium-infected erythrocytes, while the production of superoxide was lowered in chloroquine-resistant strain of Plasmodium treated with chloroquine. This conclusion helps to deepen the understanding of the mechanisms of action of different antimalarials.

Artemisinin derivatives inhibit adipogenic differentiation of 3T3-L1 preadipocytes through upregulation of CHOP

Guoying Zhang et al.

Summary: Artemisinin derivatives can inhibit adipogenic differentiation of 3T3-L1 preadipocytes by downregulating the expression of CHOP, which plays a key role in preventing lipid accumulation and expression of adipogenic molecules.
