Blood volatile organic aromatic compounds concentrations across adulthood in relation to total and cause specific mortality: A prospective cohort study

Wenzhen Li et al.

Summary: The study found that blood volatile organic aromatic compounds are positively associated with total and cause-specific mortality risk, which is also observed among non-smokers.

Summary: Every year, the American Cancer Society projects the numbers of new cancer cases and deaths in the United States, with the latest data showing a significant decline in lung cancer mortality, while prostate cancer mortality has plateaued and breast and colorectal cancer mortality have slowed. Improvements in treatment have accelerated progress against lung cancer, leading to a record drop in overall cancer mortality.

Metabolic-Pathway-Based Subtyping of Triple-Negative Breast Cancer Reveals Potential Therapeutic Targets

Yue Gong et al.

Summary: This study investigated metabolic dysregulation in TNBCs using a multi-omics database, identifying three heterogeneous metabolic-pathway-based subtypes with distinct metabolic features. These subtypes had different prognoses, molecular subtype distributions, and genomic alterations, as well as varying sensitivities to metabolic inhibitors targeting fatty acid synthesis and glycolysis. Additionally, inhibition of lactate dehydrogenase could enhance tumor response to anti-PD-1 immunotherapy in specific TNBC subtypes.

Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.

Metabolomic Study on the Therapeutic Effect of the Jianpi Yangzheng Xiaozheng Decoction on Gastric Cancer Treated with Chemotherapy Based on GC-TOFMS Analysis

Chao Hou et al.

Summary: The combination of JPYZXZ and chemotherapy in treating GC can reduce the risk of leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, and gastrointestinal reactions. Patients with GC were found to have 26 significant differential metabolites after chemotherapy, primarily involved in 12 metabolic pathways. JPYZXZ mainly influences the pentose phosphate pathway, glutathione metabolism, and other metabolic pathways of patients with GC treated with chemotherapy.

Metabolic Profiling of Urinary Chiral Amino-Containing Biomarkers for Gastric Cancer Using a Sensitive Chiral Chlorine-Labeled Probe by HPLC-MS/MS

Rongrong Huang et al.

Summary: Through the use of enantiomeric pair of chlorine-labeled probes and a sensitive HPLC-QQQ-MS/MS method, a total of 161 amino-containing metabolites were rapidly separated and determined in urine samples, with 28 chiral amino acids and achiral glycine quantified accurately. Differential variables were identified in the urine samples of gastric cancer patients and healthy individuals, leading to the construction of a diagnostic regression model with high prediction correctness. This study establishes a connection between gastric cancer and chiral amino-containing metabolites, providing a new approach for noninvasive diagnosis.
