Repeat hepatectomy justified in patients with early recurrence of colorectal cancer liver metastases: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Tessa Hellingman et al.

Summary: The review and meta-analysis show that the disease-free interval is a prognostic factor for overall survival in patients undergoing repeat hepatectomy for recurrent CRLM, but it should not be the only criterion for selecting patients for repeat hepatectomy.

Recent Advances in Monoclonal Antibody Therapy for Colorectal Cancers

Kyusang Hwang et al.

Summary: Colorectal cancer is a leading cause of cancer deaths worldwide, and recent advances in recombinant DNA technology have led to the development of therapeutic antibodies for CRC therapy. There are also increasing numbers of therapeutic targets identified, including growth factors, receptors, and immune checkpoint proteins in CRC. Additionally, the current status of monoclonal antibodies for CRC therapy approved by the US Food and Drug Administration is discussed.

Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.

Surgery for Colorectal Cancer: A Trigger for Liver Metastases Development? New Insights into the Underlying Mechanisms

Simran Grewal et al.

Summary: Surgery for colorectal cancer is crucial for cure, but paradoxically it may accelerate tumor recurrence and liver metastasis. Understanding surgery-induced metastasis formation mechanisms can provide new interventions to reduce metastasis risk and improve long-term survival and quality of life in patients.

Impact of EGFR and EGFR ligand expression on treatment response in patients with metastatic colorectal cancer

Fee Klupp et al.

Summary: The study investigated the association between the expression of EGFRs and their ligands in tumors with response to cetuximab therapy in mCRC patients. However, the results showed that there was no significant correlation between the expression levels of EGFRs and their ligands with the treatment response. Therefore, EGFR or EGFR ligand expression does not predict treatment response in CRC patients with liver metastases following cetuximab therapy.

Colorectal Cancer: From Genetic Landscape to Targeted Therapy

Mouade El Bali et al.

Summary: Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the third most common cancer type worldwide and understanding molecular pathways has led to improved management. Targeted therapy has played a crucial role in CRC treatment, but variability in treatment outcomes exists due to molecular heterogeneity in colorectal tumors.
