A PEGDA hydrogel nanocomposite to improve gold nanoparticles stability for novel plasmonic sensing platforms

B. Miranda et al.

Summary: A 3D plasmonic sensing platform utilizing citrate gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) and poly-(ethylene glycol) diacrylate (PEGDA) hydrogels is proposed for biosensing applications, with tunable optical properties and sensitivity predicted by the Mie theory. AuNPs embedded in the hydrogel network are found to be more stable than in colloidal solutions, with the PEGDA hydrogel physically retaining the gold nanoparticles even after full swelling in liquids. This property enables the development of a biorecognition hybrid device for optical detection of small molecules like biotin.

SERS Quantification of Galunisertib Delivery in Colorectal Cancer Cells by Plasmonic-Assisted Diatomite Nanoparticles

Stefano Manago et al.

Summary: Galunisertib (LY2157299, LY), a small molecule, has multiple anticancer activities by blocking the transforming growth factor-beta 1 receptor and inhibiting the epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT) in colorectal cancer (CRC) cells. A hybrid nanosystem (DNP-AuNPs-LY@Gel) is proposed to deliver LY efficiently, reverse EMT in CRCs, and monitor drug release at the single-cell level using surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS).
