Hydrogen sulfide: Recent progress and perspectives for the treatment of dermatological diseases

Mengting Xu et al.

Summary: This review summarizes the role of hydrogen sulfide (H2S) in the skin and its potential applications in treating dermatological diseases. Studies have shown that H2S may protect the skin from various diseases by regulating oxidative stress, inflammation, angiogenesis, and other pathways.

Targeting hydrogen sulphide signaling in breast cancer

Rana Ahmed Youness et al.

Summary: Hydrogen sulphide (H2S) plays a significant role in the pathogenesis of breast cancer, and targeting H2S can mitigate the disease. Knockdown of H2S-synthesizing enzymes in specific types of breast cancer cells resulted in reduced malignancy and increased susceptibility to cytotoxic activity of immune cells. Computational analysis revealed H2S signaling pathways in different breast cancer cell lines and identified a potential upstream regulator that could synergistically abrogate cancer cell malignancy.

Forum Review: Diet and Hydrogen Sulfide Production in Mammals

Peter Rose et al.

Summary: Recent research has shown that dietary sulfur compounds can impact mammalian cell signaling systems by releasing hydrogen sulfide (H2S), which plays important roles in various organs. Studies have begun to explore how dietary sulfur compounds can act as sources of H2S and the implications of this on H2S levels in mammals.

Hydrogen Sulfide, an Endogenous Stimulator of Mitochondrial Function in Cancer Cells

Csaba Szabo

Summary: H2S, previously known as a toxic gas and environmental hazard, has been found to play multiple biological regulatory roles in mammalian cells as an endogenously produced gaseous transmitter. Its effects in mitochondria serve as an electron transport stimulator in physiological concentrations, particularly significant in cancer cells where it helps maintain mitochondrial organization and DNA repair.

H2S prevents peripheral immune cell invasion, increasing [Ca2+]i and excessive phagocytosis following hypoxia-ischemia injury in neonatal mice

Tingting Li et al.

Summary: The study found that L-Cysteine treatment after neonatal hypoxia-ischemia brain injury can modulate immune cell populations, inhibit peripheral immune cell invasion, reduce Ca2+ mobilization, and improve neurobehavioral deficits.

Summary: Initially considered a toxic gas, further research has shown that H2S has physiological roles and can act as a signaling molecule, working in synergy with NO to relax vascular smooth muscle. H2Sn, produced by 3MST, regulate the activity of ion channels and enzymes, and even affect tumor growth.
