ACE2 abrogates tumor resistance to VEGFR inhibitors suggesting angiotensin-(1-7) as a therapy for clear cell renal cell carcinoma

Prateek Khanna et al.

Summary: The study suggests that higher ACE2 expression is associated with better overall survival in ccRCC patients and has inhibitory effects on tumor proliferation in vitro and in animal models. Ang-(1-7) may mediate the effects of ACE2. Treatment with VEGFR-TKI decreases ACE2 expression in ccRCC xenografts, and combined therapy with VEGFR-TKI and Ang-(1-7) leads to enhanced tumor growth suppression.

Development of a mechanically matched silk scaffolded 3D clear cell renal cell carcinoma model

Alycia Abbott et al.

Summary: The development of a 3D, biomaterials-based model for clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) showed promising results in mimicking the disease characteristics and providing a platform for studying disease progression. The mechanically matched silk scaffolds were found to enhance ccRCC features, suggesting their potential use in investigating therapeutic targets and disease mechanisms.

POSTN promotes proliferation and epithelial-mesenchymal transition in renal cell carcinoma through ILK/AKT/mTOR pathway

Yuan-yuan Jia et al.

Summary: This study focused on investigating the detailed mechanisms of POSTN overexpression in RCC invasion and migration. The results revealed that POSTN overexpression could promote EMT in RCC cells through the IKL/AKT/mTOR pathway, while POSTN knockdown could suppress EMT and inhibit cell proliferation and migration. Furthermore, higher POSTN expression was found to promote angiogenesis in an RCC xenograft tumor in vivo via activating the IKL /AKT/mTOR pathway.
