Effect of Yttrium-90 transarterial radioembolization in patients with non-surgical hepatocellular carcinoma: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Simon Lemieux et al.

Summary: Yttrium-90 transarterial radioembolization did not show significant effects on survival, progression-free survival, time to progression, disease control rate, and incidence of gastro-intestinal ulcers in non-surgical HCC patients, but was associated with significantly lower rates of grade >= 3 adverse events. Further randomized controlled trials are needed to determine optimal treatment.

Liver resection versus transarterial chemoembolization for huge hepatocellular carcinoma: a propensity score matched analysis

A. Bogdanovic et al.

Summary: The study compared short- and long-term outcomes of patients with huge HCC who underwent potentially curative LR or TACE, finding that LR group had higher overall survival rates both before and after propensity score matching. Total bilirubin and TACE treatment were identified as independent prognostic factors associated with long-term survival.

Efficacy and safety of selective internal radiation therapy with yttrium-90 for the treatment of unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma

Nguyen Van Thai et al.

Summary: This retrospective analysis evaluated the efficiency of SIRT with Y-90 microspheres for unresectable HCC patients and identified prognostic factors affecting survival. Factors associated with longer overall survival included age>65 years, BCLC stage B, tumor size<5 cm, tumor burden<25%, and tumor response (CR/PR). Additionally, unilobar disease and objective tumor response (CR/PR) were positive predictors of longer overall survival in multivariate analysis.
