Summary: Speckle tracking echocardiography (STE) is a second-level echocardiographic technique that allows for early detection of cardiac impairment and provides additional prognostic information beyond conventional echocardiographic parameters. Its feasibility and usefulness are supported by literature, and recent standardization of speckle tracking analysis has paved the way for integration of STE into diagnostic and prognostic protocols for specific clinical settings.

Indeterminate form of Chagas disease: historical, conceptual, clinical, and prognostic aspects

Summary: Chagas disease remains a serious endemic disease in Latin America and has spread to non-endemic areas in the northern hemisphere due to globalization. In the chronic phase, patients with the indeterminate form (IF) have a essentially benign clinical condition, and younger patients tend to have less progression to heart disease with etiological treatment.

Speckle tracking echocardiography in the indeterminate form of Chagas disease

Summary: Chagas disease is a common condition in Latin America, with cardiac involvement being a significant cause of death. This study found that patients with the indeterminate form of Chagas disease showed reduced global and segmental longitudinal peak systolic strain compared to healthy subjects, suggesting that it could be a sensitive technique for detecting early myocardial damage.
