Distribution of myocardial work in arterial hypertension: insights from non-invasive left ventricular pressure-strain relations

Filip Loncaric et al.

Summary: The study aimed to assess the impact of pressure on left ventricular function using MWI index, comparing MWI distribution in hypertensive patients and healthy individuals. It found that regional work impairment in hypertensive patients is unrelated to acute loading conditions, and highlighted the role of BSH as an important echocardiographic marker in hypertension.

Prognostic implications of left ventricular myocardial work indices in cardiac amyloidosis

Tor Skibsted Clemmensen et al.

Summary: This study suggests that left ventricular myocardial work may have prognostic value in cardiac amyloidosis patients by predicting major adverse cardiac events (MACE) and all-cause mortality. Combining LVMWI and the apical-to-basal segmental work ratio can independently predict all-cause mortality. LVGLS, on the other hand, does not predict all-cause mortality in this patient population.

Left Ventricular Myocardial Work in Patients with Severe Aortic Stenosis

Summary: A novel method to assess LV function, LVMW, was developed and found to have independent associations with heart failure symptoms in severe AS patients. LV global work index and global constructive work showed particular significance in predicting heart failure symptoms.

Impaired myocardial work efficiency in heart failure with preserved ejection fraction

Antonello D'Andrea et al.

Summary: The study focused on analyzing left ventricular myocardial deformation, diastolic function, and contractile reserve in HFpEF patients at rest and during exercise, and their correlation with functional capacity. Lower resting values of LV global longitudinal strain and myocardial work efficiency in HFpEF patients suggest early subclinical myocardial damage.

Myocardial work assessment in severe aortic stenosis undergoing transcatheter aortic valve replacement

Renuka Jain et al.

Summary: By studying patients with severe aortic stenosis, it was found that the addition of mean aortic gradient to non-invasive systolic blood pressure can reliably assess myocardial work. Additionally, it was also discovered that GLS can improve post-TAVR in patients with severe aortic stenosis, while myocardial work reduces.

Summary: RVGCW is a novel parameter that provides an integrative analysis of RV systolic function and correlates more closely with invasively measured stroke volume and stroke volume index than other standard echocardiographic parameters. In patients with HFrEF, RVGWI, RVGCW, and RVGWE values were significantly lower, while values of RVGWVV were significantly higher compared to a healthy cohort.
