CO-Induced Dinitrogen Fixation and Cleavage Mediated by Boron

Guohai Deng et al.

Summary: Boron atoms react with carbon monoxide and dinitrogen to form NNBCO complexes in solid neon or nitrogen matrices, which rearrange to ε(2)-N-2BCO isomers upon visible light excitation. These isomers further isomerize to NBNCO and B(NCO)2 molecules under UV light irradiation, with complete cleavage of the N-N bond. The geometries, energies, and vibrational spectra of the molecules are calculated using quantum chemical methods, while the electronic structures are analyzed with charge- and energy-partitioning methods.

Revisiting the Bonding Scenario of Two Donor Ligand Stabilized C2 Species

Sai Manoj N. V. T. Gorantla et al.

Summary: Quantum chemical calculations were conducted on complexes of different ligands, revealing almost linear C-4 cores and high thermochemical stability. SNHCMe and DAC(Me) were found to be preferable ligands over NHCMe. Bonding analysis showed genuine cumulene C-4 moieties in some complexes, resulting from electron-sharing interactions between quintet fragments.

Isolable dicarbon stabilized by a single phosphine ligand

Tsz-Fai Leung et al.

Summary: Diatomic C-2 is a highly reactive species that has been stabilized and studied using a specific ligand method, despite being difficult to isolate in the condensed phase in the past. Experimental and quantum chemical analysis showed that both carbon atoms of this complex have carbene character and exhibit specific reactivity.

The flourishing chemistry of carbene stabilized compounds of group 13 and 14 elements

Bitupon Borthakur et al.

Summary: This review discusses the chemistry of NHC-stabilized group 13 and 14 compounds, highlighting their electron donation/acceptance abilities and their effectiveness in stabilizing main group compounds. These compounds not only expand the library of main group compounds, but also showcase notable applications in catalytic and organic transformations, some of which mimic the reactivity of transition metal complexes.

Isolation and characterization of diazoolefins

Paul Varava et al.

Summary: Diazoolefins are highly reactive compounds that rapidly lose dinitrogen, and are observed to form in reactions of N-heterocyclic olefins with nitrous oxide. They display resonance stabilization, strong ylidic character, and good thermal stability, despite the presence of terminal N-2 groups. Diazoolefins can bind metal complexes without liberating dinitrogen and are strong electron donors, while also undergoing reactions involving the N-2 group.

Changing the Reactivity of Zero- and Mono-Valent Germanium with a Redox Non-Innocent Bis(silylenyl)carborane Ligand

Shenglai Yao et al.

Summary: Using a chelating C,C'-bis(silylenyl)-ortho-dicarborane ligand, a monoatomic zero-valent Ge complex was synthesized, showing different reactivities towards reductants and oxidants due to the redox non-innocent nature of the carborane scaffold. The reduction and oxidation of the Ge complex resulted in the formation of dianionic or dicationic bis(silylene)-supported Ge complexes with distinct properties.

Isolation and reactivity of an elusive diazoalkene

P. W. Antoni et al.

Summary: Most functional groups, especially those consisting of the abundant elements of organic matter-carbon, nitrogen and oxygen-have been extensively studied and only very few remain speculative due to their high intrinsic reactivity. In contrast to the well-explored chemistry of diazoalkanes (R2C=N-2), diazoalkenes (R2C=C=N-2) have been postulated in several organic transformations, but remain elusive long-sought intermediates. The discovery of a stable diazoalkene functional group opens up new possibilities for the chemistry of low-valent carbon and unsaturated carbenes.

Conformationally Switchable Silylone: Electron Redistribution Accompanied by Ligand Reorientation around a Monatomic Silicon

Taichi Koike et al.

Summary: This study reports a silicon(0) complex that can exhibit a reversible switch between pi-localized and pi-delocalized ylidene structures in the solid state and solution. The difference in physical properties between the two isomers is attributed to the balanced steric demand and redox noninnocent character of the CAASi ligand, altered by the orientation of the terminal ligands with respect to the Si-Si-Si plane.
