A simplified transient technique for porosity and permeability determination in tight formations: Numerical simulation and experimental validation

Zequan Li et al.

Summary: This study proposes a simplified pulse decay method with only a single downstream reservoir to replicate in situ conditions for reservoir fluid flow and determine the effective porosity and permeability of core samples accurately. Experimental results demonstrate that the single downstream reservoir PDM can better simulate in situ fluid flow behavior and achieve accurate measurements, extending the application of the transient technique.

Experimental Investigation of Gas Dynamic Effects Using Nanoporous Synthetic Materials as Tight Rock Analogues

Steffen Nolte et al.

Summary: The research conducted systematic flow tests on artificial micro- to nanoporous analogue materials in order to better understand gas transport processes in tight rocks. The experiments showed that the permeability coefficients measured with helium were consistently higher than those measured with other gases, indicating gas-solid interactions may affect permeability. CO2 permeability tests showed significant deviations from the linear Klinkenberg trend near the critical point.

A comparative study on methods for determining the hydraulic properties of a clay shale

Lisa Winhausen et al.

Summary: This paper presents a comparative laboratory study of different methods to determine the water permeability of saturated Opalinus Clay, and found the results obtained by different methods differ less than 15 percent. The pore pressure oscillation technique appears to be the most efficient in terms of experimental handling and data density, providing continuous data on permeability and storativity over a user-defined period of time.
