Sorting transition-metal diborides: New descriptor for mechanical properties

Xinlei Gu et al.

Summary: This study systematically explores the mechanical properties and brittle-ductile relationship of transition metal dual-borides through first-principles calculations, revealing their remarkable structural stability and hardness. The relative electronegativity of constituent atoms is identified as a distinct indicator to regulate scattered property trends. The composite VEC-REN descriptor offers crucial insights into the mechanisms driving well-regulated property trends in transition metal compounds.

Improved mechanical properties of W-Zr-B coatings deposited by hybrid RF magnetron - PLD method

Rafal Psiuk et al.

Summary: Novel W-Zr-B coatings were developed by a hybrid process, and the influence of laser power density on the structure and mechanical properties of the deposited films was studied. Addition of zirconium changed the structure of the films from columnar to amorphous.

Zirconium alloyed tungsten borides synthesized by spark plasma sintering

Dariusz Garbiec et al.

Summary: A series of tungsten borides with different amounts of zirconium substitution were synthesized by spark plasma sintering, and the effects of holding time on the properties were studied. The results showed that the addition of zirconium can enhance the hardness and electrical conductivity of the samples.
