Tensile strength improvement of martensitic ODS steels with Zr and Hf additions

Xiaosheng Zhou et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the effectiveness of Zr and Hf additions on oxide particle refinement and tensile strength improvement in transformable ODS steels. It was found that the tempered 9Cr-Hf steel exhibited superior tensile strength, while the tempered 9Cr-Zr steel showed a good combination of tensile strength and ductility. The study suggests that Zr and Hf can be considered as potential microalloying elements for producing ODS steels with favorable mechanical performance.

Supermodulus effect by grain-boundary wetting in nanostructured multilayers

Jing Wang et al.

Summary: The study systematically investigated the effect of thermal treatments on mechanical properties in Ni/Mo multilayers. A supermodulus effect and large tensile stress development were observed in the annealed multilayers, along with the evolution of grain-boundary wetting. The results highlight the crucial role of interfacial structures in governing the elastic behavior of metallic multilayers.

Direct alloying of immiscible molybdenum-silver system and its thermodynamic mechanism

Jinlong Du et al.

Summary: A direct alloying method was developed to achieve direct alloying between Mo and Ag in an immiscible system, constructing a successful Mo-Ag metallurgical bonding interface. Mechanical tests and a thermodynamic model confirmed the feasibility and mechanism of direct alloying, overcoming the positive formation heat in Mo-Ag systems.

Low-temperature densification and microstructure of W-Cu composites with Sn additives

Yuan Li et al.

Summary: High-strength dense and homogeneous W-Cu composites were successfully prepared using Cu-coated W powders and hot pressure sintering with Sn as activated additives. The addition of 2 wt.% Sn significantly promoted densification, increased Vickers hardness to 263.5 HV, and strengthened interface bonding of sintered composites.

Microstructure and mechanical properties of diffusion bonded joints of high-entropy alloy Al5(HfNbTiZr)95 and TC4 titanium alloy

Yu Peng et al.

Summary: TC4 (Ti-6Al-4V) titanium alloy and Al-5(HfNbTiZr) 95 refractory high-entropy alloy were successfully diffusion bonded at a temperature range of 800-1000 degrees C for 60 min under 5 MPa. The microstructure and mechanical properties of the diffusion bonded joints were investigated, revealing a parabolic growth of reaction zones and an increase in shear strength with bonding temperature. A maximum shear strength of 770.06 MPa was achieved at a bonding temperature of 950 degrees C for 60 min under 5 MPa.

High-strength diffusion bonding of oxide-dispersion-strengthened tungsten and CuCrZr alloy through surface nano-activation and Cu plating

Yuanyuan Chen et al.

Summary: A three-step bonding process involving surface nano-activation, copper plating followed by annealing, and diffusion bonding was used to bond ODS-W and a CuCrZr alloy. The morphological and structural evolutions were thoroughly studied, resulting in well-cohesive ODS-W/Cu and ODS-W/Y2O3/Cu interfaces with high shear strengths and effective bonded area ratios. This developed bonding process provides effective support for future plasma-facing components in nuclear fusion reactor applications.

Interface diffusion and mechanical properties of ODS-W/Cu prepared by spark plasma sintering

Dong-Guang Liu et al.

Summary: In this study, ODS-W and copper powders were successfully combined by spark plasma sintering in the absence of an intermediate layer. The diffusion distance of Cu and W increased with bonding temperature, with the joint at 980°C showing the best performance. At this temperature, no microcracks or pores were formed, and the tensile strength and hardness were significantly improved.
