Prediction of Loneliness in Older Adults Using Natural Language Processing: Exploring Sex Differences in Speech

Varsha D. Badal et al.

Summary: This study explores the use of artificial intelligence technology to evaluate linguistic features of transcribed speech data related to loneliness among older adults. Findings indicate that lonely individuals demonstrate longer responses with greater expression of sadness, while women are more likely to admit feeling lonely in interviews. Machine learning models can accurately predict loneliness, with a 94% precision for qualitative assessments.

Artificial Intelligence for Mental Health Care: Clinical Applications, Barriers, Facilitators, and Artificial Wisdom

Ellen E. Lee et al.

Summary: While AI is increasingly used in fields like oncology, radiology, and dermatology, its use in mental health care and neurobiological research is limited. AI has the potential to identify high-risk individuals, personalize treatments, and address ethical challenges, but must also tackle issues such as bias and privacy concerns.

Perceived Utility and Characterization of Personal Google Search Histories to Detect Data Patterns Proximal to a Suicide Attempt in Individuals Who Previously Attempted Suicide: Pilot Cohort Study

Patricia A. Arean et al.

Summary: Despite decades of research on suicide risk, personalized online information-seeking behavior may be a useful and acceptable method for detecting suicide risk. This study found that changes in online search behavior were evident up to 60 days before a suicide attempt, with certain search features showing associations from 2 months to a week before the attempt. Participants generally found the use of personalized web search data for prevention purposes acceptable, but raised concerns about detection accuracy, privacy, and the potential for overly invasive intervention.
