The apple bHLH transcription factor MdbHLH3 functions in determining the fruit carbohydrates and malate

Jian-Qiang Yu et al.

Summary: The study reveals that the bHLH TF MdbHLH3 modulates the accumulation of malate and carbohydrates in apple fruits, promoting carbohydrate accumulation by adjusting carbohydrate allocation from sources to sinks. By directly regulating the expression of cytosolic malate dehydrogenase MdcyMDH, MdbHLH3 coordinates carbohydrate allocation and malate accumulation in apple.

V-ATPase controls tumor growth and autophagy in a Drosophila model of gliomagenesis

Miriam Formica et al.

Summary: Research has shown that autophagy is repressed during glioma tumorigenesis, and V-ATPase and MTORC1 components acting at lysosomes could be therapeutic targets against GBM. Downregulation of V-ATPase subunits can reduce overgrowth and normalize the levels of ref(2)P. Inhibition of autophagy is observed in neurospheres from patients with high V-ATPase subunit expression.

Genetic variation in the promoter of an R2R3-MYB transcription factor determines fruit malate content in apple (Malus domestica Borkh.)

Dongjie Jia et al.

Summary: This study revealed that MdMYB44 transcription factor negatively regulates fruit malate accumulation by repressing the promoter activity of malate-associated genes. Two single-nucleotide polymorphisms in the MdMYB44 promoter were shown to affect fruit malate content, providing a valuable tool for the selection of fruit acidity in apple breeding. The research is crucial for understanding the complex molecular mechanisms of fruit malate accumulation and for accelerating germplasm innovation in apple species and cultivars.

Summary: The study showed that V-PPase activity regulates stomatal aperture by altering guard cell pH. Plants over-expressing the V-PPase gene exhibited increased stomatal aperture, while vpp mutants had lower aperture and density compared to controls.
