The regulation of ethylene biosynthesis: a complex multilevel control circuitry

Jolien Pattyn et al.

Summary: The biosynthesis of the plant hormone ethylene is controlled by a complex regulatory network involving transcriptional and posttranslational control of precursor synthesis enzymes and metabolic flux. Various factors, including transcription factors and posttranslational modifications, regulate the activity and stability of enzymes involved in ethylene production. Additionally, the nonproteinogenic amino acid ACC, a key intermediate in ethylene biosynthesis, is tightly regulated through conjugation and translocation processes.

Phytohormones in fruit development and maturation

Matthew A. Fenn et al.

Summary: Phytohormones play a crucial role in regulating fruit development and maturation, with auxin and gibberellic acid signaling being key factors in fruit set initiation and growth. As fruits mature, levels of auxin and GA decrease while levels of ABA and ethylene rise, leading to the ripening process. Recent research suggests varying requirements for hormones in ripening physiologies, emphasizing the importance of rebalancing and specifying roles for common regulators.

Molecular mechanism of cytokinin-activated cell division in Arabidopsis

Weibing Yang et al.

Summary: Mitogens trigger cell division in animals, while in plants, cytokinins derived from adenine stimulate cell proliferation. Cytokinin signaling in Arabidopsis SAM is shown to regulate cell division by promoting nuclear shuttling of MYB3R4, a transcription factor activating mitotic gene expression. Rapid nuclear accumulation of MYB3R4 at G2-to-M transition, associated with a peak in cytokinin concentration, initiates a transcriptional cascade driving mitosis and cytokinesis, mimicking the effects of enhanced cell proliferation and meristem growth.

Seedless okra production by indole 3-acetic acid micro syringe injection on flower bud, ovary and shoot xylem and its vitamin and mineral content development: An innovation

A. B. M. Sharif Hossain et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the effect of different concentrations of indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) on okra growth and seedless production through injection techniques. Results showed that 25, 50, and 100 mg/L concentrations of IAA had a positive impact on pod setting and overall growth parameters, with the highest seedless rate observed at 100 and 200 mg/L concentrations. Additionally, IAA at 50 and 100 mg/L increased the content of essential nutrients in okra plants compared to lower and higher concentrations.

Sugars enhance parthenocarpic fruit formation in cucumber by promoting auxin and cytokinin signaling

Miaoqing Wang et al.

Summary: Sugars play a crucial role in parthenocarpic fruit formation, with exogenous application of sugars significantly inducing fruit set and growth. The interaction between sugars and plant hormones auxin and cytokinin regulate parthenocarpic fruit formation. Genes involved in auxin and cytokinin signaling pathways were more strongly expressed in sugar-induced parthenocarpic fruits.

PbEIL1 acts upstream of PbCysp1 to regulate ovule senescence in seedless pear

Huibin Wang et al.

Summary: This study reveals that blockage of fertilization leads to ovule abortion in pear cultivar, activation of ethylene biosynthesis by pollination, and overaccumulation of ethylene in ovules. The transcription factor EIL1 is identified as a key regulator of ovule senescence, being able to directly bind to the promoter of PbCysp1 gene and enhance its action. These findings provide new insights into how ethylene promotes unfertilized ovule senescence.

Tomato agamous-like6 parthenocarpy is facilitated by ovule integument reprogramming involving the growth regulator KLUH

Suresh Kumar Gupta et al.

Summary: The tomato CRISPR mutant of the transcription factor gene AGAMOUS-like6 can lead to fertilization-independent fruit set with abnormal ovule development. The expression shift of SlAGL6 from immature ovule integument to endothelium suggests its role in preventing fertilization-independent fruit set. The upregulation of cytochrome P450 cell proliferation regulator SlKLUH in unfertilized mutant ovules indicates its importance in fruit set regulation.
