Laron syndrome - A historical perspective

Zvi Laron et al.

Summary: Laron Syndrome is a rare genetic disorder characterized by dwarfism, obesity, and hypogenitalism. It is caused by deletions or mutations of the GH-receptor gene, with treatment involving the use of recombinant IGF-I. Patients homozygous for GH-R defects are found to be protected from malignancy lifelong, while heterozygotes or double heterozygote subjects are not.

Clinical Characteristics of Short-Stature Patients With an NPR2 Mutation and the Therapeutic Response to rhGH

Xiaoan Ke et al.

Summary: NPR2 mutations are causative for idiopathic short stature, and patients with heterozygous mutations typically exhibit short stature, facial anomalies, and skeletal dysplasia. Treatment with rhGH significantly improves height SDS in patients with NPR2 mutations, with a higher response in younger patients and those with mutations in the carboxyl-terminal guanylyl cyclase catalytic domain. Further studies on the efficacy of rhGH treatment for these patients are warranted.

Familial Short Stature-A Novel Phenotype of Growth Plate Collagenopathies

Lukas Plachy et al.

Summary: Collagens, the most abundant proteins in the human body, can cause syndromic disorders such as short stature when gene defects occur. Collagenopathies were found in 11.5% of familial short stature children, with improvements in growth velocity and height observed after GH treatment.
