A novel SNP of MYO1A gene associated with heat-tolerance in Chinese cattle

Yanhong Cao et al.

Summary: A novel missense mutation in the MYO1A gene was found to be associated with heat-tolerance in Chinese indigenous cattle. The allele frequencies at this locus were correlated with the distribution of different climatic conditions in China, and genotypes were significantly correlated with climatic conditions.

Whole genome analyses revealed genomic difference between European taurine and East Asian taurine

Qiuming Chen et al.

Summary: This study compared 16 Mongolian cattle genomes to 92 genomes of 10 representative cattle breeds worldwide, revealing differences in linkage disequilibrium levels and decay rates between European taurine and East Asian taurine. Phylogenetic analysis clustered Mongolian, Hanwoo, and Mishima cattle into East Asian taurine. Selective signals related to growth rate, body size, and meat quality were identified in European taurine and East Asian taurine through selective sweep, gene annotation, functional enrichment, and differential expression analysis.

A global review of rubber plantations: Impacts on ecosystem functions, mitigations, future directions, and policies for sustainable cultivation

Ashutosh Kumar Singh et al.

Summary: The expansion of rubber plantations driven by the growing global demand for latex has negatively impacted ecosystem functions, with significant decreases in aboveground biomass, belowground biomass, and plant diversity. Agroforestry, integrated pest management, cover cropping, mulching, and composting can help improve ecosystem functions in rubber plantations to some extent, but further research on plantation management is needed to mitigate these negative impacts.

Genome wide association study for the identification of genes associated with tail fat deposition in Chinese sheep breeds

Caiye Zhu et al.

Summary: This study investigated the genetic basis underlying phenotypic differences among Chinese indigenous sheep with different tail types. A genome-wide association study identified significant SNPs associated with tail-type traits and candidate genes including SPAG17, Tbx15, VRTN, NPC2, BMP2, and PDGFD. Further investigation revealed specific SNPs within BMP2 and PDGFD genes related to tail types in Altay and Tibetan populations.
