Texture evolution in selective laser melted maraging stainless steel CX with martensitic transformation

Hadi Pirgazi et al.

Summary: High local cooling rates and non-equilibrium directional solidification conditions in selective laser melting (SLM) lead to significantly different microstructural and textural features compared to conventionally processed metals. Experimental and modelling approaches were used to study the evolution of crystallographic orientations in maraging stainless steel CX fabricated by SLM, showing dominant texture components in martensite and austenite phases are || building direction and || building direction, respectively. Texture simulation suggested that crystallographic orientations in the sample are the result of two consecutive phase transformations from delta ferrite phase to austenite with dominant cube fiber texture, and then to martensite.

Investigation into the microstructure and dynamic compressive properties of selective laser melted Ti-6Al-4V alloy with different heating treatments

Yang Liu et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of solution treatment and solution and aging treatment on the microstructure and dynamic compressive properties of Ti-6Al-4V alloy manufactured by selective laser melting. The results showed that both the ultimate compressive strength and ductility of the alloy were improved with solution and aging treatment, resulting in better load-bearing capacities.

Selective laser melting of Ti6Al4V: Effect of laser re-melting

J. Karimi et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effect of remelting on the microstructure and mechanical properties of Ti6Al4V materials fabricated using selective laser melting. The results showed that the number of remeltings significantly influenced the homogenization of the microstructure and mechanical properties of the materials, with an increase in hardness and ultimate tensile strength but a decrease in ductility observed with a higher number of melting steps.

Multiaxial fatigue behaviour of maraging steel produced by selective laser melting

R. Branco et al.

Summary: This study investigates the multiaxial fatigue behavior of maraging steel samples produced by selective laser melting, predicting fatigue crack initiation sites and angles while computing fatigue lifetime using a one-parameter damage law. By incorporating cyclic plasticity at the notch-controlled process zone, the study shows a strong correlation between experimental observations and predicted lives under various multiaxial loading scenarios.

Selective laser melting (SLM) of CX stainless steel: Theoretical calculation, process optimization and strengthening mechanism

Dongdong Dong et al.

Summary: In this study, selective laser melting technology was used to manufacture CX stainless steel samples, and the microstructure, phase distribution, crystallographic orientation, and mechanical properties were investigated. The optimal linear energy density led to CX stainless steel samples with the best surface roughness and relative density, predominantly composed of fine martensite structures. Dislocation strengthening was found to be the main mechanism influencing the strength of the samples.

Effect of microstructure on the electrochemical dissolution behaviour of Hastelloy® X superalloy processed by selective laser melting and heat treatments

Yingyue Yin et al.

Summary: This study focused on optimizing microstructures for SLM-fabricated HX via heat treatment to enhance its electrochemical dissolution behavior. The rates of electrochemical dissolution with different heat treatments increased in the following order: as-received < solution treatment (ST) < ageing treatment (AT) < solution and ageing treatment (ST + AT) in a 10 wt% NaNO3 solution at 35 degrees C.
