Impact of traffic loads on flexible pavements considering Ecuador's traffic and pavement condition

Arminda Almeida et al.

Summary: This study examines the impact of traffic overload and high-efficient heavy-traffic streams on flexible road pavement damage, finding that reducing traffic overload significantly improves road conditions. Additionally, promoting high-efficient heavy-traffic streams should also be a focus for authorities.

Percolation in multilayer complex networks with connectivity and interdependency topological structures

Yan-Yun Cao et al.

Summary: The study investigates cascading dynamics in double-layer networks, identifying three types of percolation transitions and developing a theoretical framework to predict transition points. Validation on an empirical network shows that the model results align with observations of cascading failures in critical infrastructure systems. The research provides insights on designing double-layer networks for optimal resilience.

Stakeholder involvement in community resilience: evidence from Egypt

Iman Karam I. M. Ashmawy

Summary: Resilient communities with access to necessary resources tend to recover better from disasters, and a people-oriented approach is replacing government's command and control methods. However, there is a lack of research, and this paper aims to investigate the role of different stakeholders in promoting community resilience.

Structural monitoring and remaining fatigue life estimation of typical welded crack details in the Manhattan Bridge

Emad Norouzzadeh Tochaei et al.

Summary: The Manhattan Bridge, connecting Manhattan to Downtown Brooklyn, has withstood over 110 years of repeated loads. Research evaluated the fatigue life and reliability of typical cracked welded details using real-time structural health monitoring system. Results showed deterministic and probabilistic methods predicting remaining fatigue life of typical details at 369 and 120 years, respectively.

Predictive analytics for water main breaks using spatiotemporal data

Babak Aslani et al.

Summary: This study proposes a predictive model for water main breaks based on spatiotemporal data and machine learning methods, using data from Tampa,Florida from 2015 to 2020. Vulnerable areas were identified through spatial clustering and time series analysis, with Boosted Regression Tree (BRT) model found to be superior. Predicted normalized failure rates were presented to inform decisions on rehabilitation and fortification at the municipality level.

Decentralized resource allocation for interdependent infrastructures resilience: a cooperative game approach

Shima Mohebbi et al.

Summary: Interdependent critical infrastructures are managed by multiple sectors working together to maintain social, economic, and environmental well-being. Decentralized decision makers must prioritize areas of the network to improve overall resilience. A coalitional game theory approach is proposed to address decentralized resource allocation for interdependent water distribution and road networks, effectively reducing the complexity of resource allocation for these networks.
