Development of the default-mode network during childhood and adolescence: A longitudinal resting-state fMRI study

Fengmei Fan et al.

Summary: A study on the developmental trajectories of the default-mode network (DMN) using longitudinal resting-state fMRI data revealed that connectivity strength and network efficiency increased from childhood to adolescence, particularly in midline structures. The identification of three subclusters within the DMN based on divergent developmental rates of nodal centrality highlights the complex developmental patterns of this network system. These findings have implications for understanding the network mechanisms underlying cognitive development in individuals.

Sex-related human brain asymmetry in hemispheric functional gradients

Xinyu Liang et al.

Summary: The study found symmetrical functional gradients between the left and right hemispheres of the human brain, with the left hemisphere showing a larger range of the principal gradient and greater asymmetry in males. Additionally, sex had an impact on the asymmetry of certain brain regions.

Mapping Domain- and Age-Specific Functional Brain Activity for Children's Cognitive and Affective Development

Lei Hao et al.

Summary: This study used functional MRI data from 250 children aged 7 to 12 to create age-specific brain activity maps in four domains, and developed a toolbox for researchers to visualize and download these maps. The toolbox and maps are available on the Neuroimaging Informatics Tools and Resources Clearinghouse website, providing valuable resources for future developmental neuroimaging studies.

Shifting gradients of macroscale cortical organization mark the transition from childhood to adolescence

Hao-Ming Dong et al.

Summary: The transition from childhood to adolescence is marked by significant changes in brain structure and function, especially in the gradient patterns across the cortex. The maturation process of these gradient patterns is not uniformly distributed and becomes more refined with age.
