Coexistence of Ferroelectricity and Ferromagnetism in One-Dimensional SbN and BiN Nanowires

Chao Yang et al.

Summary: In this study, we predicted ferroelectricity in one-dimensional SbN and BiN nanowires and found that their polarization strengths are significantly higher than previously reported values. Additionally, we discovered that spontaneous spin polarization can be generated in these nanowires by moderate hole doping. This is the first reported instance of the coexistence of both ferroelectricity and ferromagnetism in a one-dimensional system.

Tunable magnetism in ferroelectric α-In2Se3 by hole-doping

Chang Liu et al.

Summary: Hole-doping can induce robust ferromagnetism in 2D ferroelectric alpha-In2Se3, and the material's magnetic properties can be effectively modulated by factors such as doping concentration, strain, and number of layers. Furthermore, strong magnetoelectric coupling is found at the surface of hole-doped multilayer alpha-In2Se3, enabling nonvolatile electric control of magnetization. This research provides a promising approach for designing and searching for 2D multiferroics with potential applications in memory devices and sensors.

An ab initio study of the electronic properties of the ferroelectric heterostructure In2Se3/Bi2Se3

T. Ayadi et al.

Summary: This study investigated the electronic properties of the bidimensional ferroelectric heterostructure In2Se3/Bi2Se3 using ab initio calculations. The material was found to have varying bandgap types and band alignments depending on the direction of the polarization vector, with the potential for tuning these properties with an external electric field. This suggests promising applications in electronic and optoelectronic systems.

Anomalous layer-dependent electronic and piezoelectric properties of 2D GaInS3 nanosheets

Weizhen Chen et al.

Summary: The 2D GaInS3 nanosheets exhibit excellent thermal and structural stability, good oxidation resistance, and tunable electronic properties. They possess robust in-plane piezoelectricity without the commonly observed odd-even effect, attributed to their retention of noncentrosymmetry. The stable piezoelectricity and high carrier mobility of the nanosheets make them promising for applications in nanoelectronic and nanoelectromechanical devices.

Coexistence of large out-of-plane and in-plane piezoelectricity in 2D monolayer Li-based ternary chalcogenides LiMX2

Siyuan Liu et al.

Summary: This study predicts the properties of a family of piezoelectric materials, LiMX2, using first-principles calculations. These materials exhibit both out-of-plane and in-plane piezoelectricity, with particularly high out-of-plane coefficients for LiAlSe2, LiGaTe2, and LiAlTe2. The coexistence of large out-of-plane and in-plane piezoelectricity enables potential applications in both directional and nondirectional piezoelectric devices.

Ni(NCS)2 monolayer: a robust bipolar magnetic semiconductor

Yaxuan Wu et al.

Summary: The Ni(NCS)(2) monolayer is a robust bipolar ferromagnetic semiconductor with a moderate bandgap and a Curie temperature of 37 K. It remains ferromagnetic ordering under strain and electron doping, but ferromagnetic-to-antiferromagnetic phase transition occurs with high concentrations of holes doping. The monolayer may have promising potential for magnetic nanoelectronic devices.
