Hybridization of carbon fiber composites with graphene nanoplatelets to enhance interfacial bonding and thermomechanical properties for shape memory applications

Nilesh Tiwari et al.

Summary: The mechanical and thermomechanical properties of carbon fiber-reinforced SMPC were enhanced by incorporating graphene nanoplatelets (GnP) in the SMP matrix, leading to increased tensile strength and storage modulus. The improved interfacial bonding between fiber and matrix, as well as the wettability of the carbon fiber, supported these enhancements.

Investigation of the shape memory and actuation properties of different asymmetric smart polymer composites

Abdul Basit et al.

Summary: Shape memory polymers and their composites are being investigated as replacements for shape memory alloys due to their easy fabrication, low cost, and low density. Various composites exhibit different shape memory and actuation properties, with actuation properties deriving from asymmetry and shape memory properties requiring programming. The results show a dependency of shape memory and actuation properties on the asymmetry and rigidity of the composite materials.

Effects of pulling speed on structural performance of L-shaped pultruded profiles

Alexander Vedernikov et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the influence of pulling speed on the structural characteristics of pultruded glass fiber/epoxy-vinyl resin composite profiles. The results showed that an increase in pulling speed led to an increase in spring-in angle, affecting the mechanical properties of the profiles. Profiles produced at different pulling speeds exhibited differences in cracking and mechanical characteristics.

Modeling Spring-In of L-Shaped Structural Profiles Pultruded at Different Pulling Speeds

Alexander Vedernikov et al.

Summary: This study successfully predicted spring-in phenomena in pultruded composite profiles through a numerical model, finding that increasing pulling speeds lead to higher levels of spring-in. The validated model demonstrated the possibility of maintaining the same level of spring-in at increased pulling speeds by using a post-die cooling tool or reducing the chemical shrinkage of the resin.
