Content and psychometric evaluations of questionnaires for assessing physical function in people with arm-shoulder-hand disorders. A systematic review of the literature

Birgitta Wiitavaara et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate how structured assessment of physical function can be performed in people with musculoskeletal disorders in arm-shoulder-hand. Nine questionnaires were identified, with most items focusing on activities rather than functions. There were differences in psychometric evaluation, with only a few questionnaires tested for validity and reliability.

Patient-reported outcomes following lymph reconstructive surgery in lower limb lymphedema: A systematic review of literature

Lisanne Gruenherz et al.

Summary: This study aimed to analyze the psychometric properties of patient-reported outcome measurements (PROMS) for patients with lower limb lymphedema and evaluate changes in quality of life after lymph reconstructive surgery. Out of 30 studies, six validated PROMS were identified for assessing lower limb lymphedema, with LYMQOL being the most commonly used. Results showed a significant improvement in quality of life after reconstructive lymph surgery in all studies, regardless of lymphedema etiology, stage, or time since diagnosis.

Development and Psychometric Validation of a Patient-Reported Outcome Measure for Arm Lymphedema: The LYMPH-Q Upper Extremity Module

Anne F. Klassen et al.

Summary: A comprehensive patient-reported outcome measure (LYMPH-Q Upper Extremity Module) for arm lymphedema in women with breast cancer was developed and validated through a multiphased mixed-methods study. Six independently functioning scales were created to measure various aspects of arm lymphedema. Analysis using Rasch measurement theory showed good reliability and validity, with lower scores on the scales associated with more severe arm swelling, arm problems caused by cancer and/or its treatment, and arm sleeve usage.
