Exploring the International Food Safety Authorities Network as a Community of Practice: Results from a Global Survey of Network Members

Carmen Joseph Savelli et al.

Summary: INFOSAN, a global network of national food safety authorities managed by FAO and WHO, is widely used to reduce the burden of foodborne illness and save lives. Results from 239 members in 137 countries show that INFOSAN is a valuable tool in improving global food safety.

Genomic surveillance of antimicrobial resistance shows cattle and poultry are a moderate source of multi-drug resistant non-typhoidal Salmonella in Mexico

Enrique Jesus Delgado-Suarez et al.

Summary: The study identified MDR non-typhoidal Salmonella in bovine lymph nodes and ground beef, with a higher prevalence in beef. The most common resistant phenotypes included tetracycline, carbenicillin, while more than half of the isolates showed decreased susceptibility to ciprofloxacin. MDR phenotypes were strongly associated with NTS serovar and certain genetic mutations.

Virulence and Antimicrobial Resistance Profiles of Salmonella enterica Serovars Isolated from Chicken at Wet Markets in Dhaka, Bangladesh

Nure Alam Siddiky et al.

Summary: This study identified virulent and multi drug resistant Salmonella enterica strains on chickens in wet markets in Dhaka, Bangladesh, highlighting a serious challenge to food safety and public health. The diverse antimicrobial resistance patterns observed among different chicken types suggest a potential risk to both vendors and consumers in the food chain.

Prevalence of Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Salmonella spp. and Escherichia coli Isolated from Broilers in the East Coast of Peninsular Malaysia

Shamsaldeen Ibrahim et al.

Summary: Salmonella and Escherichia coli are the most common infectious pathogens in poultry, showing high prevalence of antimicrobial resistance in broiler farms on the East Coast of Peninsular Malaysia. The findings suggest the need for enhanced monitoring and control measures to prevent the emergence of antimicrobial resistance, potentially attributed to the excessive use of antimicrobial agents by poultry farm owners.

Serotyping and Antimicrobial Resistance Profile of Enteric Nontyphoidal Salmonella Recovered from Febrile Neutropenic Patients and Poultry in Egypt

Reem A. Youssef et al.

Summary: The study found that human and poultry-derived nontyphoidal Salmonella serovars shared similarities in terms of antimicrobial resistance, virulence genes, and genotypes. Enterobacterial repetitive intergenic consensus PCR analysis also showed clustering together of human and poultry serovars, indicating similarity.

Reduction in Antimicrobial Use and Resistance to Salmonella, Campylobacter, and Escherichia coli in Broiler Chickens, Canada, 2013-2019

Laura Huber et al.

Summary: Canada's poultry industry successfully reduced antimicrobial resistance in broiler chickens by reducing the use of antimicrobials, but the withdrawal of individual drug classes led to an increase in the use and resistance levels of other drug classes.
