Classification of Aged Epoxy Micro-Nanocomposites Through PCA- and ANN-Adopted LIBS Analysis

Myneni Sukesh Babu et al.

Summary: The study found that water aging has a more severe impact on the surface hardness of epoxy micro-nanocomposite specimens compared to gamma irradiation. Machine learning techniques such as principal component analysis and artificial neural network analysis of LIBS spectral data can successfully classify unaged, gamma-irradiated, and water-aged specimens. The artificial neural network analysis showed better classification accuracy in categorizing the level and type of aging in epoxy micro-nanocomposites compared to principal component analysis.

Influence of Water, Acid Rain and Bentonite on Ionization Characteristics of Sand under Lightning Impulse Voltage

Prem Ranjan et al.

Summary: The study examines changes in soil ionization surrounding a ground rod electrode after impulse voltage application with addition of water, acid rain, and bentonite to different sized sand. It is found that the soil ionization voltage and time to ionization of sand increase with grain size, decrease with water content, and are lower in bentonite-sand mixtures due to changes in permittivity and plasma temperature. Modifications in physico-chemical properties of sand and bentonite are observed after successive impulse voltages, verified through XRD, FTIR, VSM, LIBS, and DRS analyses.

Effect of short-term sulphate contamination on lime-stabilized expansive soil

P. Sriram Karthick Raja et al.

Summary: The study found that sulphate contamination had a significant impact on the structure, physico-chemical, and index properties of lime-stabilized soil. The mechanism causing deterioration of stabilized soil depended on the curing period before sulphate contamination. Short-term sulphate contamination led to different morphological changes, which requires further investigation.
