Seizure Detection: Interreader Agreement and Detection Algorithm Assessments Using a Large Dataset

Mark L. Scheuer et al.

Summary: In comparing the seizure detection performance of expert humans and computer algorithms in a large set of epilepsy monitoring unit EEG recordings, Persyst 14 algorithm was found to be comparable with human experts, meeting statistical noninferiority criteria. The study showed a modest level of agreement among human experts in seizure marking and low false-positive rates, with Persyst 14 algorithm performing similarly to the experts for the first time.

Systematic analysis and comparison of commercial seizure-detection software

Johannes Koren et al.

Summary: The study compared three commercially available seizure-detection software packages (Besa, Encevis, Persyst) in 81 epilepsy patients undergoing long-term video-EEG monitoring. While all three packages showed similar sensitivities in detecting seizures, they differed in false alarm rates and detection delays. Persyst 13 had the highest detection rate and false alarm rate with the shortest detection delay, while Encevis 1.7 had slightly lower sensitivity, the lowest false alarm rate, and longer detection delay.

Electrographic seizure monitoring with a novel, wireless, single-channel EEG sensor

Mitchell A. Frankel et al.

Summary: This study aimed to determine which seizure types can be recorded from the scalp below the hairline, assess epileptologists' ability to identify electrographic seizures from single-channels EEG, and evaluate their ability to identify seizures with Epilog wireless EEG sensors. Results showed that epileptologists were able to accurately identify seizures in the majority of Epilog recordings and wired EEG recordings.
