Crack-resistant σ/FCC interfaces in the Fe40Mn40Co10Cr10 high entropy alloy with the dispersed σ-phase

Donggyun You et al.

Summary: The morphology and size of the a-phase in Fe40Mn40Co10Cr10 non-equiatomic high entropy alloy play a significant role in its mechanical properties. Fine sigma-precipitates can increase strength without severe ductility loss, while coarsened sigma-phase leads to early failure. Controlling the size and dispersion of the sigma-phase to increase sigma/FCC interfaces is essential for developing HEAs with an excellent strength-ductility combination and damage tolerance.

Deformation-induced grain boundary segregation mediated high-strain rate superplasticity in medium entropy alloy

Peyman Asghari-Rad et al.

Summary: Superplasticity, especially high-strain rate superplasticity (HSRS) at a strain rate equal to or higher than 10(-2) s(-1), shows significant technological potential in the shape-forming of engineering materials. The formation of liquid phase at grain boundaries/interfaces can assist HSRS, and designing grain boundary segregation of a low melting temperature element in multi-principle element alloys (MPEAs) can promote HSRS by partial melting. This study demonstrated the trace of liquid phase in Al0.3CoCrNi MPEA and the possibility of tailoring microstructure for promoting HSRS in high-strength materials by grain boundary segregation engineering.

Summary: The study proposes an advanced strategy to develop high-entropy alloys to improve the strength and ductility of the alloy through the crystallographic features and microstructures. The alloy annealed shows significant increases in tensile strength, yield strength, and plasticity, which are associated with the transformation of its microstructure.

Ultrahigh hardness in nanostructured dual-phase high-entropy alloy AlCrFeCoNiNb developed by high-pressure torsion

Payam Edalati et al.

Summary: This study combines multiple strategies to achieve ultrahigh hardness in metallic alloys, including solution hardening, grain refinement, and introducing dual phases. The resulting high hardness is attributed to the formation of nanograins and the generation of dislocations, interfaces, and spinodal-like elemental decomposition.

Evidence of FCC to HCP and BCC-martensitic transformations in a CoCrFeNiMn high-entropy alloy by severe plastic deformation

Hamed Shahmir et al.

Summary: High-pressure torsion on an equiatomic CoCrFeNiMn high entropy alloy at room and cryogenic temperatures induces FCC to HCP and BCC martensitic transformations, effectively strengthening the alloy through increasing straining and decreasing deformation temperature. This transformation plays a significant role in altering the mechanical properties of the alloy under different deformation conditions.

Grain Boundary Wetting by a Second Solid Phase in the High Entropy Alloys: A Review

Boris B. Straumal et al.

Summary: The review analyzed the phenomenon of grain boundary wetting by the second solid phase in high entropy alloys (HEAs). It discussed how the wetting can be incomplete or complete, and how it can be observed in HEAs produced by various technologies. Using grain boundary engineering methods, the wetting by the second solid phase can be employed to improve the properties of HEAs.

Simultaneous deformation twinning and martensitic transformation in CoCrFeMnNi high entropy alloy at high temperatures

Summary: High temperature equal channel angular pressing (ECAP) was used to activate simultaneous twinning-induced (TWIP) and transformation-induced plasticity (TRIP) in the CoCrFeMnNi high entropy alloy (HEA), resulting in a high strength level and uniform plastic deformation ability. This phenomenon was attributed to the high strength levels applied via ECAP and the relatively low stacking fault energy of the present HEA.
