Effect of the Elemental Content of Shells of the Bivalve Mollusks (Mytilus galloprovincialis) from Saldanha Bay (South Africa) on Their Crystallographic Texture

Pavel Nekhoroshkov et al.

Summary: The study aimed to investigate whether the texture of mollusk shells changes with alterations in their elemental composition. Although significant differences in elemental concentrations were found among stations, the crystallographic textures of mussel shells from various bays were largely similar. Observed differences in pole figure values fell within the range of variability for the genus Mytilus, but appeared to correlate with concentrations of Br, Mg, and Sr. Further research with larger sample sizes and ecological variability of mussels is warranted.

Texture Study of Sinanodonta Woodiana Shells by X-Ray Diffraction

M. Kucerakova et al.

Summary: The study used X-ray diffraction to investigate the preferred crystal orientation of adult shells of Sinanodonta woodiana collected from Czech freshwater streams, as well as the texture of artificially grown young shells. Pole figure measurements of the Aragonite phase were conducted using a high-resolution X-ray diffractometer with a rotating Cu anode.
