Effect of Process Parameters on Defects, Melt Pool Shape, Microstructure, and Tensile Behavior of 316L Stainless Steel Produced by Selective Laser Melting

Hua-Zhen Jiang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of laser power and energy density on the quality of parts manufactured by selective laser melting (SLM). By using normalized equivalent densityE(0)* and dimensionless laser powerq*, the study examines defects, melt pool shape, and primary dendrite spacing in SLM-produced 316L stainless steel. The findings suggest that appropriate heat input can reduce the number of large defects in the manufactured parts.

Microstructure and Crystallographic Texture of Laser Additive Manufactured Nickel-Based Superalloys with Different Scanning Strategies

Xingbo Liu et al.

Summary: Controlling solidification structure and crystallographic texture during metal additive manufacturing, especially through different scanning strategies, plays a crucial role in the epitaxial growth of dendrites and the final solidification structure of the fabricated parts. Single-directional scanning leads to a typical fiber texture with unidirectional columnar grains, while cross-directional scanning results in a more random texture with a mixture of unidirectional and multidirectional grains.
