Ten years after the 2011 Tohoku-oki earthquake and tsunami: Geological and environmental effects and implications for disaster policy changes

Kazuhisa Goto et al.

Summary: The 2011 Tohoku-oki earthquake and tsunami had devastating effects on coastal environments, but many of these impacts have since naturally or artificially recovered. Despite efforts by the government to prepare for future events, there is still uncertainty in forecasting tsunamis and raising public awareness. The challenges of predicting low-frequency tsunami events and fostering a social consensus for preparedness remain unresolved since the 2011 event.

Knowledge, Awareness, and Attitudes toward Tsunamis: A Local Survey in the Southern Coast of Iran

Parastoo Salah et al.

Summary: A study conducted on the southern coast of Iran, Makran, found that residents have low awareness and willingness to evacuate in the event of a tsunami, and have low trust in the government's risk management. Religious beliefs significantly affect respondents' risk perception and evacuation behavior, increasing residents' vulnerability along with other factors. Recommendations are provided to help policymakers develop evidence-based, sensitive, informed, and cost-effective mitigation and evacuation plans.

Modeling and Simulation of Tsunami Impact: A Short Review of Recent Advances and Future Challenges

Simone Marras et al.

Summary: In recent years, tsunami modeling and simulation techniques have undergone significant changes, driven by exa-scale computing and hybrid computing. Different approaches to tsunami simulation have limitations based on flow states, and there are still challenges to overcome in achieving a comprehensive multi-scale modeling infrastructure.
