Colonic endoscopic submucosal dissection using a novel robotic system (with video)

Philip Wai Yan Chiu et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the performance of colorectal ESD using the latest version of the EndoMaster EASE System in a porcine model, showing that the system was effective in conducting ESD and managing adverse events such as bleeding. The results provide important preclinical experience for future clinical trials.

Safety, efficacy, and maneuverability of a self-propelled capsule endoscope for observation of the human gastrointestinal tract

Kazuhiro Ota et al.

Summary: In a clinical trial of total gastrointestinal capsule endoscopy in healthy subjects, the first-generation self-propelled capsule endoscope was found to be safe and effective, with no adverse effects of the magnetic field or mucosal damage. However, issues with observation were identified, such as prolonged stomach observation time and interference from swallowed saliva. Further improvement of the capsule endoscope design and control of the gastrointestinal tract environment may be necessary.

Capsule Endoscopy for Gastric Evaluation

Ji-Hyun Kim et al.

Summary: Wireless capsule endoscopy, originally developed for observing the small intestine, has now been used for observing the stomach as well. The main challenge lies in controlling the capsule's movement within the stomach, with magnetic manipulation being the most commonly used system. Studies have shown that this method is safe and effective for observing the stomach and is considered an emerging new application of wireless capsule endoscopy.

Endoscopic submucosal dissection using a detachable assistant robot: a comparative in vivo feasibility study (with video)

Sang Hyun Kim et al.

Summary: In robotic-assisted ESD, the submucosal incision speed was significantly faster in the expert group compared to the novice group, while there was no significant difference in the submucosal dissection speed between the two groups. There were no reported complications, indicating that the robot can provide simple, effective, and safe traction during ESD procedures.

Role of artificial intelligence in multidisciplinary imaging diagnosis of gastrointestinal diseases

M. Alvaro Berbis et al.

Summary: The use of artificial intelligence tools in diagnostic imaging holds great promise, especially in the field of deep learning analysis, potentially changing the way care is delivered in gastroenterology. This review aims to explore the role of neural networks in evaluating gastrointestinal conditions and how different models perform in critical tasks.

Magnetic flexible endoscope for colonoscopy: an initial learning curve analysis

Alexander P. Mamunes et al.

Summary: The study introduced a magnetic flexible endoscope (MFE) with robotic control to assist in colonoscopy procedures, showing that both novices and experienced endoscopists can quickly reach minimum proficiency levels and improve user experience. In contrast, only a few novices could achieve minimum and average proficiency levels with the traditional pediatric colonoscope.
