Coherent effects in energy absorption in double quantum dot molecule - Metal nanoparticle hybrids

Spyridon G. Kosionis et al.

Summary: In this study, the optical properties of a hybrid structure composed of a metal nanoparticle and an asymmetric double semiconductor quantum dot molecule were theoretically analyzed. The effects of applied field direction, intensity, and electron tunnelling coupling on the absorption spectra were investigated, revealing Autler-Townes splitting and double nonlinear Fano effects.

Fast and robust exciton preparation in a coupled semiconductor quantum dot-metal nanoparticle system using shortcuts to adiabaticity

Athanasios Smponias et al.

Summary: Efficient preparation of the exciton state in a hybrid nanostructure composed of a semiconductor quantum dot and a metallic nanoparticle can be achieved using pulses derived with the method of shortcuts to adiabaticity. The population inversion fidelity degrades for smaller distances and longer pulse durations due to the stronger nonlinear terms in the interaction equations. This study is expected to contribute to the development of schemes for generating single photons on demand or ultrafast nanoswitches.

Coherent preparation of the biexciton state in a semiconductor quantum dot coupled to a metallic nanoparticle

Emmanuel Paspalakis et al.

Summary: In this study, we investigate the potential for controlled transfer of population to the biexciton state of a semiconductor quantum dot coupled with a metal nanoparticle under the influence of an electromagnetic pulse. Analytical solutions of the density matrix equations are derived for both zero and nonzero biexciton energy shifts, showing efficient transfer to the biexciton state even at relatively small interparticle distances. The influence of surface plasmons on the excitons can strongly modify the population transfer, particularly for shorter pulses, in certain cases. The successful preparation of the biexciton state in the hybrid nanostructure studied here is expected to contribute to research on generating efficient polarization-entangled photons.

Efficient Biexciton Preparation in a Quantum Dot-Metal Nanoparticle System Using On-Off Pulses

Athanasios Smponias et al.

Summary: In this study, a hybrid nanostructure composed of a semiconductor quantum dot coupled to a metallic nanoparticle was investigated for the efficient creation of biexciton state using linearly polarized laser pulses. Numerical simulations showed that a simple on-off-on pulse-sequence can efficiently prepare the biexciton state even in the presence of the nanoparticle, for various interparticle distances and biexciton energy shifts. The pulse durations in the sequence were determined by solving a transcendental equation.

Insights into Fano-type resonance fluorescence from quantum-dot-metal-nanoparticle molecules with a squeezed vacuum

Shuting Shen et al.

Summary: In this study, the interactions between metal nanoparticles and semiconductor quantum dots combined with a squeezed reservoir were explored to engineer and control the optical properties of the hybrid molecule. The squeezed vacuum field was found to influence the peak-value magnitudes, widths, and shapes of the resonance fluorescence spectra, allowing for the observation of various interesting phenomena like Fano-type resonance fluorescence, fluorescence quenching, fluorescence narrowing, and fluorescence enhancement. These findings may have potential applications in developing quantum plasmonic platforms and on-chip devices such as optical switches and sensors.
