Atomically Dispersed Selenium Sites on Nitrogen-Doped Carbon for Efficient Electrocatalytic Oxygen Reduction

Hui Hu et al.

Summary: This study reports the preparation of non-metal Se single atoms embedded in nitrogen-doped carbon for efficient electrocatalytic oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). The obtained single-atom catalyst exhibits outstanding activity and stability, surpassing noble metal catalysts and many nanocatalysts. Experimental and theoretical calculations demonstrate that Se single atoms serve as active sites for ORR and contribute to lowering the reaction barrier.

Sub-2 nm Thiophosphate Nanosheets with Heteroatom Doping for Enhanced Oxygen Electrocatalysis

Junnan Song et al.

Summary: In this study, anion-regulated sub-2 nm ultrathin thiophosphate nanosheets were designed and synthesized as bifunctional oxygen evolution/reduction reaction electrocatalysts for Zn-air batteries. The incorporation of Se dopants expanded crystal plane spacing, generated a partially disordered structure, and regulated electronic structures of active sites. Density functional theory calculations showed reduced overpotential and a shortened energy bandgap, enhancing reaction kinetics and conductivity for efficient electrocatalysis in metal-air battery technologies.

In situ coupling of NiFe nanoparticles with N-doped carbon nanofibers for Zn-air batteries driven water splitting

Chenglong Lai et al.

Summary: A flexible 3D free-standing bifunctional electrode, NiFe/NCNF/CC, was successfully constructed by in-situ coupling of NiFe nanoparticles and N-doped carbon nanofibers on carbon cloth. This electrode exhibits efficient and stable ORR and OER performance, and showed high power density and excellent charge/discharge stability in Zinc-air battery assembly. Additionally, two liquid Zinc-air batteries were used for stable power supply in a self-assembled water-splitting device.
