Increase in Daily Household Water Demand during the First Wave of the Covid-19 Pandemic in Germany

Deike U. Luedtke et al.

Summary: The study investigated the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on water consumption in northern Germany, revealing a 14.3% increase in residential water usage per day during the first wave, with higher peaks in morning and evening demand. The findings suggest that changes in behavioral patterns may have contributed to the higher water demand and pose a challenge for long-term infrastructure planning for water utilities post-COVID-19.

Identifying and analyzing residential water demand profile; including the impact of COVID-19 and month of Ramadan, for selected developments in Dubai, United Arab Emirates

Syed Rizvi et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the domestic water consumption profiles of selected developments in Dubai, considering socio-demographic factors such as weekday/weekend variations, population, income levels, fasting during Ramadan, and the outbreak of COVID-19. The research showed significant differences in consumption profiles under different conditions, which can help in designing more cost and energy efficient networks.

Water Quality Audit in Drinking Water Distribution Networks

Surachai Lipiwattanakarn et al.

Summary: This study introduces the concept of a free residual chlorine (FRC) mass audit as a tool for water quality management in water distribution networks. By applying this concept to a real network, it is discovered that the percentage of FRC mass losses is higher than the percentage of water losses due to decay by reactions. Three performance indicators are proposed to assess FRC losses, safety, and reliability of water distribution systems in terms of water quality.

Quantifying the impact of the COVID-19 lockdown on household water consumption patterns in England

Halidu Abu-Bakar et al.

Summary: The COVID-19 lockdown has led to significant changes in household behaviors in terms of water consumption, especially in the south and east regions of England where water consumption reached an all-time high. By analyzing data from over 11,000 households, researchers were able to identify unique consumption patterns and their impact on network demand during the lockdown period. The study highlights the need for improved forecasting strategies and further research into urban water demand.

Influence of Service Levels and COVID-19 on Water Supply Inequalities of Community-Managed Service Providers in Nepal

Arati Shrestha et al.

Summary: In Nepal, there are three types of water service providers, including government-managed and community-managed ones. The study found that WUSAs performed well in terms of non-revenue water rates and bill collection rates, maintaining high service levels. However, during the COVID-19 lockdown, water consumption increased while bill payment decreased, indicating varying customer water consumption behaviors.

The Use of Cluster Analysis to Evaluate the Impact of COVID-19 Pandemic on Daily Water Demand Patterns

Paulina Dziminska et al.

Summary: Accurate determination of unitary water demand and diurnal distribution is crucial for designing, sizing, and analyzing water supply networks. This study analyzed hourly water consumption in apartment buildings to verify the application of k-means clustering. The article provides a detailed description of the methodology and results, including synthetic distributions of hourly water consumption and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Modeling of residual chlorine in a drinking water network in times of pandemic of the SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19)

Fernando Garcia-Avila et al.

Summary: In order to combat the Covid-19 pandemic, it is crucial to ensure high-quality public water supply. A residual chlorine decay model was developed to predict chlorine levels in drinking water, with experimentally determined chlorine decay rates and reaction constants. Simulation results showed that residual chlorine concentrations closely matched actual levels in the drinking water distribution network.
