Floristic composition and structure of the Kibate Forest along environmental gradients in Wonchi, Southwestern Ethiopia

Misganaw Meragiaw et al.

Summary: The study in the Kibate Forest, Ethiopia revealed high species richness and importance in the vegetation community, but it is threatened by environmental factors and human activities, particularly overgrazing by livestock. Urgent management practices and conservation measures, such as prohibiting forest clearing and overgrazing, and planting indigenous trees through community participation, are necessary to protect the rich endemic species in the forest.

Carbon stocks of above- and belowground tree biomass in Kibate Forest around Wonchi Crater Lake, Central Highland of Ethiopia

Misganaw Meragiaw et al.

Summary: Forests play a crucial role in the global carbon balance, but their biomass has decreased due to deforestation and reduced forest cover. This study assessed the status of tree biomass carbon stocks in Kibate Forest, Ethiopia, revealing the importance of certain tree species in contributing to carbon stocks. Sustainable forest management practices are crucial in the study area to preserve biodiversity and combat climate change.
